Brain CT (CAT) scan with dye

Description
A special xray that enables a doctor to see abnormalities of the brain. This test is most often used to detect brain injuries, bleeding in the brain, strokes, brain abscesses, and skull fractures. Dye (contrast) is given in the vein to provide more detail and is generally used in disorders such as trauma, infections and cancer.

Common Complications
There is a small risk of radiation. This risk is felt to be greater with babies and children. In some patients the dye can cause allergic reactions and/or kidney damage.
