Bankart procedure (shoulder stabilization)

Description
A Bankart procedure, also known as a Broca-Perthes-Bankart procedure, is performed to stabilize a shoulder that is frequently coming out of joint (dislocating). The procedure can be done with a large incision (open procedure) or through an arthroscope.

Common Complications
Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems. Stiffness of the shoulder, failure of the surgery to relieve symptoms, failure of the repair to stop recurrent dislocations.
