Arterial blood gas (ABG)

Description
An arterial blood gases is a measurement of how much oxygen and carbon dioxide is in the blood. It also determines the acidity (pH) of the blood. The test is is used to measure how well the lungs and heart are oxygenating the blood and to detect metabolic diseases.

Common Complications
The needle being inserted into the the artery can damage the vessel or cause a blood clot to develop.
