AC joint separation repair (acromioclavicular joint repair)

Description
Surgery to repair a torn or damaged coracoclavicular ligament. This ligament connects the acromium to the clavicle in the shoulder. Surgery is reserved for the most serious acromioclavicular joint separations (AC joint separations). The ligament is usually repaired using surrounding tissue or a graft.

Common Complications
Complications include injury to the joint, ligaments, cartilage, nerves or blood vessels. All surgery comes with the risk of infection and blood clots. General anesthesia runs the risk of allergic reactions or breathing problems. The surgery may not relieve the stiffness or chronic pain of the shoulder.
