With a continued emphasis on progressive care, Rapides Regional has grown to meet the continually changing needs of our patients and the rapidly advancing technology of modern healthcare. Located in downtown Alexandria and easily accessible from Interstate 49, Rapides Regional is licensed for 314 beds and fully accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. Cardiology
From strokes to heart attacks, Rapides Regional Medical Center consistently provides the best possible outcomes for patients. RRMC is the only hospital in Louisiana to receive the 2009 Thomson Reuters' "100 Top Hospitals" award for cardiovascular care and is this area's only "Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center." Our staff is uniquely designed to provide for every aspect of a patient's cardiac care, including the availability of a 26-bed Intensive Care Unit and nine-bed Surgical ICU.
Emergency Services
Last year, Rapides Regional Medical Center's emergency department and staff treated approximately 50,000 patients - and 14,175 of those were infants, children and teenagers. Our ED offers the area's first comprehensive "Pediatric Emergency Services" - with eight beds dedicated especially for pint-sized patients and emergency room staff trained to approach children on their own level. No matter what your age, our Level II emergency department is ready to help, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Rapides Women’s and Children’s Services
Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital delivers approximately 68 percent of all babies in central Louisiana. We're also home to the area's largest neonatal intensive care unit and the area's only pediatric intensive care unit with full-time pediatric intensivist. RWCH also offers a mammography center with same-day appointments and Day Surgery services for women and children.
Cancer Services
Rapides Cancer Center offers a full range of state-of-the art treatment options for patients undergoing radiation therapy. Patients can also benefit from our inpatient and out-patient oncology services provided by specially trained oncology nurses and staff. Our hospital is also home to Trilogy - the area's only image-guided radiation therapy machine - which allows patients to receive faster, more accurate doses of radiation delivered directly to tumors while saving healthy tissue.
Outpatient Services
Patients receive fast, friendly and convenient service in Rapides Regional Medical Center's Outpatient Center. We provide a variety of outpatient testing, including diagnostic imaging services such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, X-ray, mammography and nuclear medicine.
Surgery Services
Rapides Regional Medical Center offers comprehensive surgery services, beginning with our first-floor Day Surgery unit offering 19 private prep/recovery rooms and pre-surgery exam rooms. Day Surgery patients can also visit our Pre-Admission testing facility for all of their pre-op testing and one-on-one patient education. Free valet parking is available at our Day Surgery entrance.

Regional also offers a wide array of services including general medicine, general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, bypass surgery, cardiac rehabilitation, neurology, neurosurgery, intensive care and telemetry, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopaedic services, physical therapy, skilled nursing services, respiratory therapy and lithotripsy.
