Ureaplasma Urealyticum Infection

Description
A bacterial cause of non-gonoccocal urethritis in men. It is unclear whether it causes acute illness in women. It has been associated with problems in pregnancy including spontaneous abortions. People with depressed immune systems are considered to be at increased risk for more serious infections.

Symptoms
Urethral discharge in men, no symptoms are experienced in women.

Tests
A history and physical exam will be performed. Only a special culture can detect the organism.
Treatment
Antibiotics are the treatment of choice and the bacteria is susceptible to multiple different kinds.
