Description

Tarantulas are a group of spiders with over 900 species. Some are big enough to kill mice or lizards but the majority are harmless to humans. Some are kept as exotic pets. The bites can be painful and a serious allergic reaction can occur if the patient is allergic.

Pain and swelling at the site of the bite.

A history and physical exam will be performed.

Treatment

Treatment

No specific therapy except wound care is needed. Some bites can get infected and an antibiotic may be used. For more information and help call your local poison center at 1-800-222-1222.
