Infection

Description
A growth of bacteria, virus, parasite or fungus in the body. The most common sites of infection are the urine, blood, skin, lung or throat. Most of the damage is done by the bodies own immune response fighting the infection.

Symptoms
Depends on the part of the body infected. Fever, pain, swelling, fatigue.

Tests
A history and physical exam will be performed. Lab tests and imaging studies (X-ray, CT scan, MRI) will be done to determine the extent of damage done by the infection. Appropriate cultures will be taken to identify the organism.
