Hypoxia (Lack Of Oxygen)

Description

Low oxygen can be caused by: infection (sepsis), lung infection, blood clots in lung, heart failure, airway obstruction, overdose, head injury, low blood sugar.

Symptoms
Shortness of breath, confusion, air hunger, cyanosis, fatigue.

Tests
A history and physical exam will be performed. Tests will be done to determine the cause of the low oxygen level.
- CBC
- Chem 12
- Troponin
- D-Dimer
- UA
- X-Ray
- EKG
- CT Scan
Treatment
Oxygen administration is the only way to effectively treat hypoxia. It may be provided with a nasal cannula, face mask, or a ventilator if severe. The cause of the low oxygen will be reversed as well.
