Humerus (Upper Arm) Fracture

Description
The humerus is the upper arm connecting the shoulder to the elbow. It is a common fracture in all ages. Treatment depends on the location, severity of the injury and age of the patient. The fracture can damage adjacent nerves and arteries.

Symptoms
Pain, arm deformity, inability to move arm, arm swelling, numbness, tenderness.

Tests
A history and physical exam will be performed.
Standard Workup
- X-Ray
Treatment
Depends on the location of the injury, severity of the fracture and the age of the patient but may include: immobilization, casting, and/or surgery.
