Description

Characterized by pain and tenderness in many muscles and ligaments and can be associated with fatigue. The symptoms are recurrent and last varying periods of time. The disorder is more common in women between the ages of 20 and 50. Evaluation of the muscles and ligaments do not show any damage to these tissues.

Pain, achy joints, muscle pain and cramping, weakness, fatigue.

Tests

Tests

A history and physical exam will be performed. Imaging studies will be done if localized pain and rheumatologic studies will be done to rule out other causes of joint and muscle pain

  • Chem 12
  • Lipase
  • BHCG
  • UA
  • MRI
Treatment

Treatment

Treatment may include stress reduction, exercise, and psychotherapy in addition to medications. Medications include: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn), pain medications, antidepressants, and anti-seizure medications (anti-convulsants).
