Chlamydia Trachomatis Infection (Std)

Description
Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases in the U.S. The infection is cause by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. This disorder is easily spread because it often causes no symptoms and may be unknowingly passed to sexual partners. Untreated Chlamydia infections can spread to a women's tubes and uterus causing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). PID can result in chronic pelvic pain, infertility, and ectopic pregnancies.

Symptoms
Penile discharge, vaginal discharge, painful urination, painful intercourse.

Tests
A history and physical exam will be performed. Tests will be performed to Identify the organism in the urethral discharge of males or cervix of females.
Treatment
Treatment includes: antibiotics (tetracyclines, azithromycin or erythromycin), and treatment of all sexual partners to prevent reinfection,
