
Any disease that results from an aberrant immune response is termed an autoimmune disease. Prominent examples include Coeliac disease, diabetes mellitus type 1 (IDDM), systemic lupus erythematosus , Sjögren's syndrome, Churg-Strauss Syndrome, multiple sclerosis (MS), Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, chest pain, headache, rash, weakness, numbness.

A history and physical exam will be performed. Serologic tests, radiologic imaging and occasionally biopsies are needed to characterize the specific disorder.

Depends on the specific condition. Medications including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn), acetaminophen(Tylenol), and other more potent anti-inflammatory medications such as: methotrexate, etanercept (Enbrel), infiximab (Remicaid), and adalimumab (Humira) are used.
