Description

A physical and mental dependence on alcohol, sometimes resulting in chronic disease and the loss of interpersonal, family and work relationships. Continued daily use can destroy the liver resulting in scarring of the liver (cirrhosis). Other long term effects include: anemia, esophageal bleeding (varies), dementia, alcohol withdrawal, alcohol seizures, delirium tremens, pancreatitis, and multiple cancers.

Confusion, depression, poor functioning, separation from family.

Tests

Tests

A history and physical exam will be performed along with other tests which may include: liver function tests, electrolytes, and a lipase.

  • Chem 12
  • Lipase
Treatment

Treatment
